Which files do I actually need?
At minimum: favicon.ico (legacy browsers) and a 192px + 512px PNG for PWA install. The HTML snippet includes the recommended link tags for everything.
Does the source image need to be square?
It helps. Non-square images are centered and cropped to square for icon generation.
Are favicons generated locally?
